The “Federation” in its various titles has been serving the interests of historic motorists in South Australia since 1971.
Starting with five foundation members, it now boasts more than a hundred and fifty member clubs from all areas of the State.
Meetings are held at 7.00 pm on the third Saturday every two months at the Combined Car Club’s rooms at Clark Ave Glandore.
Only nominated Club Representatives are permitted to vote and put motions at these meetings, but any interested club member who wishes may attend as a visitor and be sure of a warm welcome.
In 1991 the Federation successfully lobbied the government of the day for special registration for historic vehicles and in February 1992 the Conditional Registration for Historic Vehicles was introduced. The Federation has a role in the administration of the system and arranges the printing and sale of the logbooks required by owners of historically registered vehicles.
Partnered with the National Motor Museum the Federation also organises the Bay to Birdwood Run and Classic.
In 2001 the Federation organised a tour to Canberra in celebration of the Centenary of Federation. Since then the Federation has continued to hold a series of “Meet the Club Tours”. The first of which went to the West Coast, meeting and socialising with Federation Member Clubs, along the way. In 2005, 98 vehicles travelled through the South East for about twelve days and in 2007 more than a hundred vehicles took part in a tour of the Mid North including visits to Mildura and Broken Hill. In 2009 we revisited the West Coast and included Yorke Peninisula, with about ninety vehicles taking part.
