This year will mark the first ever vintage Bay to Birdwood run without Arthur Clisby.
But his children, and the Bay to Birdwood community, are set to continue his legacy.
One of Bay to Birdwood’s founding committee members, Arthur passed away in February after a short battle with cancer.
And while he sadly won’t be in the driver’s seat this year, children Paul and Lisa, and wife Nola will make sure Arthur’s prized possessions – a 1934 Buick and 1939 Vauxhall – keep their place in the iconic event.
“We pretty much grew up in the Buick – it’s been in our family almost as long as I have,” Paul says.
“For dad’s sake we really want to take the cars up this year because they’ve been such a huge part of our lives,” Lisa says.
“Bay to Birdwood was always such a great family day for us growing up and we have really great memories.”
The 2018 Bay to Birdwood is dedicated to Arthur’s memory. Participants are encouraged to make a donation on their registration form to Bay to Birdwood charity partner Flinders Foundation to help fund ground-breaking cancer research at the Flinders Centre for Innovation in Cancer.
Participants will receive a ribbon to display on their vehicle during the run as a symbol of the generosity which has seen Bay to Birdwood raise more than $20,000 for Flinders Foundation throughout its partnership.
